Thandi Gets Real About Groceries in the BVI

Thandi talks to me about the inspiring Richard Branson, cooking disasters and the Candida diet. She believes that the government should focus more on agriculture in the Caribbean to promote local farming. Thandi is another example to prove that nutrition and healthy don’t have absolute definitions. She even shares how she has found ways to eat healthy with her barriers of working in confined spaces for long periods of time in the British Virgin Islands.

Cheese addictions and the (lack) of science behind them

The science behind a fear mongering news clip stating that cheese is as addictive as crack. Truth is that it probably isn’t and the media is just over reporting this hypothesis. So a new study on food came out, surprised?

This time we’re led to believe that cheese is as addictive as crack!

Do you know anyone who has critically cheesed themselves? I don’t and I’m a Registered Dietitian. I feel like if this was happening on the reg, I’d probably hear about it by now.

Apparently study was conducted by asking 500 people some questions from the YFAS (Yale Food Addiction Score ) the ambiguous questions on the YFAS can be found here. The study concluded that they have preliminary evidence (from a questionnaire) that not all foods are equally implicated in addictive like eating behaviours and that these foods were thought to be highly processed. Recipe: Bobotie

Bobotie is a South African curry style dish that is inspired by Cape Malay and Cape Dutch backgrounds. The curry used in the simple dish is a yellow malay curry and you can add more spices like Jeera and Panchpuran if you own them.

Bobotie is typically served with a yellow rice and perhaps a salad on the side. I like to serve it with sweet potatoes, beets and peas!
